Time Required: 4 Hours Prior Reading of Booklet + 1 Day Classroom and On-site. Number of Candidates / Session: 2 to 6 The candidates for this course are likely to be practicing Electricians or Multi-skilled Mechanical / Electrical Craftsmen. Please note that this course does not provide the requirements for the candidates to be able to issue safety documents such as Electrical ‘Permits to Work’ or operate High Voltage Equipment. This will require the addition of the SAP course and mentoring. It is recommended that the course is based at the client’s site thus allowing candidates to gain practical experience on equipment that they are already familiar with. An on site meeting room suitable for teaching purposes would be necessary for the theory presentation. The content of the course is as follows, although this can be adapted to meet client's requirements.
Assessment: If the candidate builds up a portfolio of experience, ICA has a structured assessment procedure. This involves an interview panel consisting of an ICA SAP Mentor and the clients Safety Advisor or Senior Electrical Engineer. If the candidate passes this assessment they are eligible to become a ‘Authorised Person’. Note 1. Live Working: An 'accompanying person’ can substantially contribute towards the implementation of safe working practices and provide first aid in the event of electric shock. It is recommended that all accompanying persons and Authorised persons have recently undertook first aid training with regards to dealing with person’s who have suffered an electric shock. ICA can provide you with details of organisations who are certified to deliver this training or alternatively organise this training for you. Note 2. This section of the course is for awareness only, a Senior Authorised Person is required to carry out ‘Isolation’ and issue a ‘Permit to Work’ before any work can be carried out on High Voltage or Dangerous Equipment. A SAP is also required when third party requires a ‘Permit to Work’ for work on any Electrical Equipment. It is also recommended that a Senior Aurthorised Person should also control the access to High Voltage Substations.
